If you’ve ever been to an OB/GYN, you most likely wait around to get called back. Then, when the provider finally comes in, the appointment time is short. OBs do very well with patient care, but often lack the extra time some women feel they need when trying to make a pregnancy decision.

So, what is the difference between an appointment with Alcove Health and an OB/GYN? To give a quick glimpse of an appointment at Alcove Health, here is what the flow may look like: First, you come and check in with the receptionist (free hot coffee and tea are available for you!); second, you’ll leave a urine sample for the nurse to use for your pregnancy test; and lastly, you’re taken back to see a trained patient advocate and a registered nurse.

Once you’re taken back with your advocate, she’ll ask you how you are doing both physically and emotionally, ask if you’re in a safe situation, and check to see if there are any community resources we can help you with. Every part of you matters, that’s why holistic care is so important.

Your patient advocate and nurse care about you. We care if times are tough financially for you and your family, if you might be on the brink of a divorce, if you’re scared because your last pregnancy ended in miscarriage, or even if you’re not sure you want to parent with your current pregnancy and want to discuss your options. Then, when you meet with the registered nurse, she’ll provide you with the results of your pregnancy test, offer you free STI testing, go over all your health history, and answer your medical questions. If you’re pregnant, the nurse will assess you for a same-day ultrasound and, if indicated, perform the ultrasound

If you are planning or considering an abortion, our nurses will also provide abortion education and allow you a safe space to talk about your unique situation. Since we are a licensed medical clinic, everything discussed is confidential and covered by HIPAA standards.
