Types of In-Clinic Abortions
In-clinic abortions are available as early as 6 weeks once an intrauterine pregnancy has been confirmed. There are three types of surgical abortions available in Virginia:
Available up to 14 weeks in a VA free-standing clinic
Available between 15 to 22 weeks on available pregnancy. Sometimes referred to as a D&C, Suction Dilation and Curettage procedure.
Available starting at 23 weeks and must be performed in a hospital setting, allowing 2-3 days for the procedure to be complete.

An ultrasound exam plays an important role in your decision, whether it is abortion, adoption, or parenting, and provides you with the information you need to make an informed decision about your reproductive health.
Location of Pregnancy:
An ultrasound shows the inside of the uterus. A pregnancy may develop inside the uterus (called an “intrauterine pregnancy”) or outside the uterus (called an “ectopic pregnancy,” which can be life-threatening for the woman). Before any abortion procedure, an ultrasound is necessary to confirm that the pregnancy is intrauterine.
Fetal Heartrate:
An ultrasound can visualize and measure fetal cardiac activity, assuring fetal viability. Almost one in four pregnancies will end in miscarriage, most of which happen during the first trimester. It is possible to have a positive pregnancy test for up to a month following a miscarriage.
Gestational Age:
An ultrasound will allow us to measure the gestational age to determine how far along you are and your estimated due date. Dating your pregnancy will help you decide which options are safely available to you if you are considering abortion.
Past-Abortion Support
If you’ve received an abortion in the past and are living with guilt, shame, or regret from your decision–know that you don’t have to.
