Why STI Testing Matters

Regular STI testing is an essential part of taking charge of your reproductive health. Even if you don’t have symptoms, getting routine STI tests allows you to stay informed and safe. Many sexually transmitted infections—like Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trich—can be present without any signs at all, meaning you must get tested in order
to know if you’re infected. Getting tested is a smart and responsible action. It’s a normal part of staying healthy, protecting your future, and caring for yourself. We, at Alcove Health, are here to make the process as comfortable as possible for you.

What Happens At Your Appointment

Here’s what to expect at your STI testing appointment:

  1. You’ll be welcomed into a private, judgment-free space to put you at ease.

  2. One of our trained advocates will talk to you about your concerns and questions. They’ll also explain the testing process.

  3. You’ll receive clear, simple information about STIs—how they spread, why testing matters, and why many infections go unnoticed without routine screening.

  4. Once you’re ready, a Registered Nurse will walk you through the testing process. At Alcove Health, we test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trich via a vaginal swab. The test is quick and handled with your comfort in mind.

Throughout your visit, everything you share—and every test you take—is completely confidential. Our goal is to offer compassionate, supportive care that helps you feel informed and empowered as you take this step for your reproductive health.

Common Questions and Fears

It’s normal to have questions and even fears around STI testing. Below are some common questions we get asked and their accompanying answers.

Is the test painful?

Our STI tests are done via vaginal swab, which can be uncomfortable but not painful. Any discomfort is only temporary whereas untreated infections can lead to significant pain and other health issues.

Will I be judged?

At Alcove Health, you’ll never be judged for getting tested. Getting routine STI tests is a smart, proactive way of maintaining your health.

What if I have something?

Our advocates and Registered Nurses will explain the results of your test. If you come back positive for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, or Trich, we’ll discuss treatment options and next steps.

Will anyone else find out my results?

Absolutely not. Your appointment and test results are completely confidential.

Can I get tested if I don’t have symptoms?

Yes. Many people don’t have symptoms of an STI—however, that doesn’t mean they don’t have one. Getting tested regularly even without symptoms is recommended.

Does STI testing cost anything?

No. At Alcove Health, we offer free, confidential STI testing in a private, judgment-free environment.

When and How You’ll Get Results

After your test, we’ll make sure you know exactly what to expect next. Your sample will be sent to our lab, and results are typically available within a few business days. As soon as they’re ready, an Alcove Health advocate will contact you directly in a private and confidential manner.

If your results come back positive, know that you don’t have to navigate the next steps alone. Our advocates and Registered Nurses will talk with you about what your results mean, answer your questions, and help you understand your treatment options.

You’re Not Alone

Whether it was concern, curiosity, or a desire to take control of your health that you brought you to us, know that you don’t have to navigate this by yourself. Alcove Health is here to support you with compassion, not pressure. Our advocates and Registered Nurses are committed to giving you clear information, confidential care, and
a safe place to get the answers you need.
