Searching for a clinic of any kind is such a pain! It’s even worse when looking for a women’s clinic for help with an unplanned pregnancy, or STI testing! This type of specialized care often requires more sensitivity and understanding because it’s more of an intimate experience.
When trying to find a women’s clinic, I look for information about services and insurance/cost information, credibility, staff, and a couple of bonus things.
1. Services and Insurance/Cost Information
It’s a good idea to know what services you need before looking for a women’s clinic. After you have an idea of what you might need, you can look for a women’s clinic that has those services. A good clinic should have these listed on their website.
Another thing you’ll want to know is if they take your insurance. You might have to call a clinic to get this information, but sometimes they will have insurances they cover listed on their website. If you don’t have insurance or can’t afford the co-pay of visiting a clinic, be sure to check out your local community for free resources.
Alcove Health Women’s Clinic in Newport News, VA is a great example of a local resource offering free services such as pregnancy tests, STI testing, ultrasounds, options consultations, and more.
2. Credibility/Trustworthiness
I don’t know about you, but credibility is important to me when looking for a women’s clinic. I like to look over a clinic’s website and social media with these things in mind:
I personally look at all these things when looking for a women’s clinic because it represents who they are and how they carry themselves. Keep in mind that this isn’t a foolproof way of checking a clinic’s credibility. You might not really know what a clinic is like until you’ve actually visited. However, these things can still be a good gauge. When I have more information about a clinic, I have a better sense of what it might be like; therefore, it makes a clinic feel more trustworthy.
3. Staff
When you’re looking for a women’s clinic, you’ll want to pay attention to the clinic staff. How are they responding to your phone call, message, or email? Are they quick or slow to respond? Are they rude or kind? Do they brush you off or do they listen? You’ll know when a clinic genuinely cares for its patients when they keep in contact with you.
These are top priorities when looking for a women’s clinic and a good medical experience for my reproductive health. However, there are additional things that would be nice to find in a clinic, such as services offered for Spanish speakers. If you’re looking for a women’s clinic that offers services for Spanish speakers in Hampton Roads, click HERE.
Another great addition when looking for a women’s clinic is an option to book appointments online. As a Gen-Zer, there is a stereotype that we don’t like to call people on the phone. Whether you’re a part of Gen-Z, feel anxious, or find online bookings more convenient, having that option is a beautiful thing!
If you live in the local area, Alcove Health Women’s Clinic offers free and confidential services that put you and your reproductive health first. Call or click here to schedule an appointment today!
