If you’re in the armed forces and you just found out you’re pregnant, you may find that you want a confidential space – outside the military – to consider your options and get accurate medical information. If you’re in the military and don’t want an abortion, a positive pregnancy test may make you feel like your world just turned upside down. You’re not alone. We can help.
Here at Alcove Health, we’re here for you. We’re located right here in Newport News – close to multiple military installations: Langley Air Force Base, Fort Eustis, the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, and the Coast Guard Station.
But I have Tricare, you may be thinking. I can’t go off base/fort to get medical care. I have to go where Tricare authorizes me to go.
While that may be true for most medical appointments, it’s not the case for appointments at Alcove Health Women’s Clinic. All of our services are free and we don’t accept insurance payments. If you’re in the military and don’t want an abortion – or even if you’re not sure what you want – our services are available to you.
We’ve seen quite a few active-duty women through the years. Repeatedly, they’ve noted that they value the confidentiality of our services. The services you receive in our clinic aren’t part of your official medical records unless you request for us to forward your records to the provider of your choice. We are a safe place to discuss your options and get accurate medical information in private.
We’ve heard from women in all fields about the pressure to abort – external pressures from family members, boyfriends/husbands & others and internal pressures from worries about job positions and promotions.
Know that it is not only unloving and unprofessional to pressure someone to abort – it’s also illegal to force someone to have an abortion. Not just here in Virginia; it’s illegal in all 50 states.
Thoughts about promotions and assignments may feel overwhelming. The fear of how a pregnancy may affect your planned next steps may be the first thought running through your mind.
That’s why if you’re facing a pregnancy in the military and don’t want an abortion, Alcove Health is your best first call. We offer judgment-free support and medical services so you can fully understand your pregnancy.
What’s there to understand, you ask?
An over-the-counter pregnancy test gives you some information, but it does not give you complete information. And when you’re making a decision about your pregnancy and how your military career may be affected, the first thing you need is accurate information.
Here are the services you can expect to receive from Alcove Health:
You have a lot to think about. The best way to do that is to give yourself the space to breathe in a place that has nothing to gain from any decision you make.
We’ve been honored to serve this area – and our active-duty military members – for over 30 years. Here at Alcove Health, we’re dedicated to your safety and providing accurate medical information. If you’re in the military and don’t want an abortion, the services and information you receive at Alcove Health will give you some breathing space to understand your options and make a plan for your next steps.
If you’re reading this and you want an abortion or are uncertain about what you want to do, we’re the best first step for you, too. Every service we provide gives you the medical information you need to make a safe plan for your reproductive health.
