If you’re reading this blog, you likely either just found out you’re pregnant, or you’ve been mulling over your pregnancy options for a little bit, and just can’t find your peace about your next step. Either way, the options – and the need to make a decision – can feel overwhelming. Ever since the pregnancy test, you may find yourself considering an abortion while also anxiously wondering if you’ll regret an abortion.
You’re not alone. There are plenty of women who find themselves distressed by indecisive, nagging thoughts that seem to interfere with the ability to land on a decision.
Unplanned pregnancies often bring high anxiety. So high, that getting out from under it may play a larger role in your rush to decide than even the pregnancy itself. In our desire – our drive – to find relief, we can make a decision that will end our current anxiety, but possibly create even more over the long haul. That’s not a great trade-off.
You may be surprised you’re even thinking you may regret an abortion. You may have had a plan in place. You may have even bought the abortion pill in advance, just in case. At the time, fixing an unplanned pregnancy with an abortion may have been an “of course” answer. Easy-peasy.
Now that it’s personal, you may be surprised to find that it doesn’t feel easy at all.
Let me encourage you to give yourself some space to figure things out because now it is personal. Regretting a fictional abortion doesn’t cost you anything. But, if you regret an abortion, a real abortion, that weight will cost you something.
It’s one of the reasons we open our clinic doors every day. Here at Alcove Health Women’s Clinic, we create – and protect – the safe space within our walls so women can walk through our doors and consider all their pregnancy options. So they can discuss the pros and cons of each pregnancy choice. So they can talk and be heard.
No assumptions. No judgment. You don’t have to explain yourself or apologize if you have concerns you didn’t expect to have. This is real life and it matters that you get this right.
So, while you don’t owe us anything, you do owe yourself a couple of things.
First, you owe yourself the knowledge that only certain medical services can provide. While your emotions may be your first concern right now, there are some physical answers you need. You can get all of these answers through an ultrasound.
Here at Alcove Health, we provide lab-grade pregnancy tests, first. If the test is positive, we provide ultrasounds. These ultrasounds are crucial to you being fully informed before your abortion.
This early pregnancy ultrasound will provide the accurate age of the pregnancy, rule out an ectopic pregnancy (for which you would not get an abortion), and determine if the pregnancy is already in the process of a miscarriage.
Getting this information before you begin any abortion procedure could help you not regret an abortion, because the ultrasound may show that you don’t even have a pregnancy to abort.
Every year, women enter our clinic doors trying to decide if abortion is right for them and leave with the knowledge that they don’t have a pregnancy to abort. And they figured this out by taking the time to come to an appointment in our free clinic.
Yes, that’s right, all of our services are free. We believe women deserve not just a safe, judgment-free space when making this decision, but also a free space.
If you have physical concerns about getting an abortion, you’ll have a chance to get answers to these questions during a one-to-one consult with one of our registered nurses. It’s all part of your medical appointment in our clinic.
Next, you owe yourself the space to figure out how you will feel after an abortion. When women worry about regret after an abortion, there are often concerns greater than just the physical ones. If you’re worried you’ll regret an abortion because of emotional, relational, or spiritual concerns, your appointment at Alcove Health will provide you with an options consultation.
This will give you the time and space you need to consider all your options so you can make sure you’ve worked through all your concerns. Part of this includes understanding the “afters” of your options before you’re committed to them.
If you’re worried that you’ll regret an abortion, know that there are some things your emotions are telling you. Listen. We’re here to help you. Call or visit our appointment page today to request your free and confidential medical appointment with Alcove Health.
