Does abortion hurt? – That’s a great question and one we often hear at Alcove Health.
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to that question. The pain and discomfort caused by an abortion will vary widely from woman to woman. Part of that reason is that the procedure itself is very different depending on the gestational age of the pregnancy.
A medical abortion varies greatly from a surgical abortion. But even a medical one can be very different from one woman to the next.
Part of what we do here at Alcove Health is assisting women in accurately dating their pregnancy so they can have full and complete information about what to expect if they choose to have an abortion.
A Registered Nurse will assess each of our clients for a free ultrasound, which is vital in determining not only the gestational age of the pregnancy but whether the pregnancy appears to be viable in the first place. The ultrasound is also extremely important in ruling out the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy, which requires immediate medical attention and can be fatal if it is not treated correctly and in a timely manner.
Each ultrasound is performed by a trained Registered Nurse and reviewed by a Medical Doctor typically within 24 hours. Following a free ultrasound, our clients will sit down with a Registered Nurse who will walk them through the types of abortions that are available to them based on the information gained from the ultrasound and what they can expect in terms of procedures and possible risks.
So, in a nutshell, when it comes to the question, “Does Abortion Hurt?” – we can’t tell you exactly what your level of pain and discomfort might be. But we can tell you what to expect, generally speaking.
It is our goal at Alcove Health that each and every client will have all the information they need to make an informed decision by the time they leave our clinic. In addition to the registered nurse, our clients are also provided an opportunity to sit and discuss their own personal situations with a trained client advocate.
Just as no two pregnancies are alike, we understand that no two situations are alike, and there is tremendous value in processing your thoughts and feelings about your situation. You are a unique woman with a unique situation, facing a unique pregnancy. We are here to help!
