Have you ever seen a pregnant girl walking around on your college campus? I never did. Perhaps I didn’t pay much attention. Perhaps that girl is you. Maybe you’re sitting in your college dorm looking at a positive pregnancy test right now. What do you do?
Girl, you’ve come to the right place. Pregnancy at any time can be shocking, scary, and even isolating. Getting pregnant in college is less than ideal.
College is about
Pregnancy was never a part of that plan (at least not yet).
At the same time, though, I know processing something BIG like this can feel SO hard.
I’ve been in a place where I can try to process something big, do all the “right things,” and even distract myself, but my mind can’t stop thinking about the problem. Most of us just want relief and for our problems to just go away. In my experience, as well as for others, that’s true for mental health issues. It can be why some people consider and/or attempt ending their life.
It’s in those moments of a mental health crisis, when reaching out for help is the hardest – because it feels like I should be able to handle this and I should be able to control my emotions. On top that, I don’t want to be a burden and I don’t feel worthy of help.
Maybe with pregnancy it’s not much different?
We’re here to help you through possibly one of the most challenging moments of life.
So, let’s talk practically about what you can do next.
Another option would be to talk to a trained client advocate here at Alcove Health Women’s Clinic. It’s free, confidential, and private. The advocate is someone who’s not affiliated with your college campus and she doesn’t have any connection to your friends or family. She’ll provide a private space for you to cry, laugh, and explore your options: abortion, adoption, and parenting.
Trying to get information can be tough. It’s hard to hear, but in some cases it is good to put ourselves in uncomfortable or challenging spaces. It could even help us process how we are feeling about the pregnancy. Here’s how you can do this:
An ULTRASOUND?!?! Girl, what?! What if I’m thinking about not keeping it?!
A lot of people don’t know just how important an ultrasound is to your health and safety, no matter your decision. It can tell you 3 things:
Alcove Health makes it super easy to get an ultrasound AND pregnancy confirmation because both are COMPLETELY FREE. No strings attached. All you do is make an appointment, fill out some paperwork in the privacy of your dorm, and show up.
In college, we’re balling on a budget, so free, sounds like exactly what we need!!
After you sit with all that information, you get to decide what you want to do. At Alcove, you don’t have to do it alone. We may be struggling, and yet life still goes on. The hardest part of it all is just showing up, so how can we just show up today?
Here’s my final encouragement to you:
One day you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come.
If you’re interested in making an appointment with us at Alcove Health, call or visit our appointment page. We would be more than happy to walk with you through this.
