Can I trust my home pregnancy test?

Even with a positive home pregnancy test in front of you, you may still be wondering: Can I really trust this result?

Start With Confirmation

Our lab-grade pregnancy tests are very accurate will likely confirm the same result as your home pregnancy test. While home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate, they aren’t 100%. A lab-grade pregnancy test can give you the confidence you need to know whether you need to start thinking about your next step.

“I’m planning to continue the pregnancy and enter prenatal care.”

If you already know you want to continue your pregnancy, you may want to contact your prenatal care provider first. However, there could be some reasons you may still want to visit Alcove Health:

  • To get a “proof of pregnancy” for insurance purposes
  • Because there is a long wait to get in with your provider
  • For peace of mind (you know, all the nervousness)
  • For support services throughout the pregnancy – like help with maternity clothes and parenting classes

“I’m planning to get an abortion.”

A positive pregnancy test alone, even if it’s accurate, does not provide enough information to move forward with an abortion. If your lab-grade pregnancy test is positive here in our clinic, your appointment will also include:

  • A safe space to process your pregnancy
  • A private discussion with one of our RNs to understand your options and answer your questions
  • An assessment for a same-day free ultrasound

The ultrasound will give three important pieces of information:

  • The age of the pregnancy – accurately, not a guess
  • The location of the pregnancy – if it isn’t intrauterine, the pregnancy is a medical emergency and needs immediate attention
  • The viability of the pregnancy – you could already be in the process of a miscarriage

“I’m not sure what I’m planning to do.”
