I just told my boyfriend that I’m pregnant. I showed him the positive pregnancy test and got a response I wasn’t expecting: my boyfriend wants an abortion.
I thought he’d be excited, but he’s not. We had never actually talked about the possibility of getting pregnant; I guess I always just thought if it happened, it happened.
He’s really upset at the idea of keeping this baby. I’m really confused and hurt.
I feel betrayed.
My boyfriend wants an abortion, but I don’t. What do I do?
At Alcove Health, our clients sometimes come to us with mismatched goals and plans. Sometimes, the mismatched goal is a pregnancy. Assumptions, feelings, and unplanned pregnancies often don’t mix, and we’re here to help you sort it all out and figure out your own “what’s next” – at no cost.
The idea that your boyfriend wants an abortion and you don’t may be the only thing you can think about right now. But it doesn’t matter to your next step. Your next step is the same regardless of your final decision for the pregnancy: schedule an appointment with Alcove Health so you can get a free ultrasound.
You can come in alone, with your boyfriend, or with another trusted adult. We encourage you to bring your boyfriend – especially if he is part of your pregnancy decision – but trust yourself to make the right decision for you.
Your appointment is confidential, and we know your time is valuable, so we center it around you – including time with a Registered Nurse, to be assessed for a same-day ultrasound.
You’ll want an ultrasound to confirm:
This information is vital for the conversation with your boyfriend and for planning your next steps. Most importantly, it’s crucial to protecting your health.
🧠Key Point: It’s crucial to have an ultrasound before beginning any abortion procedure.
Here at Alcove Health, we’re good at what we do. We’ve been helping women – and men – in unplanned pregnancies for decades. There are certain things you can expect from us:
✅Respectful care from a compassionate medical team
✅Confidential services
✅Medical services that provide accurate information
✅No charge for any of our services
We can help you both get the information you need to understand what’s going on inside your body, process your options, and help you communicate with each other.
When you come into Alcove Health and say, “My boyfriend wants an abortion, but I don’t” we respect both of you and we can help you unpack questions you didn’t even know you had.
If you’re feeling the pressure to choose an abortion because he wants one, this is a great time to slow down and think about what you want. If every reason you’re considering an abortion ends with “because my boyfriend wants an abortion” – that’s probably not going to be a good enough reason for you after an abortion.
And now’s the time to make sure you’re good with whichever “after” you choose.
An unplanned pregnancy can be quite a surprise, but you’re not alone. The good news is you don’t have to make a decision – or a plan – today.
You have time – you need to take the time – to gather all the facts and information you’ll need to make the best decision for you.
One appointment at Alcove Health could make all the difference between a decision that’s right for you and a decision that’s “right” for him – but wrong for you.
You’ll have time to process your feelings and talk about your options at no cost. Feeling overwhelmed because your boyfriend wants an abortion is understandable; but don’t let your feelings push you into a rushed decision that isn’t what you want.
You have nothing to lose – and you’ll gain everything you need to make a decision that’s right for you.

Q: My boyfriend wants an abortion – can he force me to have one?
A: No. It is illegal for anyone to force you to have an abortion.
Q: Can my boyfriend come with me to my appointment at Alcove Health?
A: Yes, you can bring one guest with you to your appointment. He can be included with your consent.
Q: What is the danger of having an abortion without getting an ultrasound first?
A: An ultrasound will indicate if a pregnancy is intrauterine. A pregnancy that isn’t intrauterine is dangerous to the woman’s health and an abortion won’t end this type of pregnancy.
