Bleeding can give women the false security that they are safe from getting pregnant again.

I often hear, “I thought it would take a while for my body to get back to normal” or, “I didn’t even have my period again, so I didn’t think I could get pregnant again so soon after an abortion.” 

Most women see the regular return of their menstrual cycle 4-8 weeks after their abortions.

But you can get pregnant even before your period resumes after an abortion. This is usually alarming for women to hear because they assumed they had some protection from an unplanned pregnancy while they were waiting for their normal period to return.
