Many Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) can be treated. If left untreated, however, STDs can lead to serious health problems. Since women are at greater risk for contracting STDs, STD testing is especially important for women.
STDs carry significant risks, if untreated:
Undetected STDs can lead to serious health consequences, yet they frequently show no symptoms. That’s especially true for women, whose anatomy places them at greater risk for contracting STDs (like chlamydia or gonorrhea) from a male partner than the other way around.
There’s a reason for this gender difference. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

Women are also more likely to suffer complications from STDs. When men do get STDs, they’re more likely than women to have symptoms, and to notice them. So, men are more likely to get diagnosed and treated for an STD.
These gender differences place women at greater risk for contracting STDs; women also are at a higher risk of complications affecting them and their future pregnancies or babies. This makes STD screening even more crucial for women and their futures.
