It can be hard to tell the difference between implantation bleeding and your period since implantation usually happens around the same time your period should start.
So how can you tell the difference?
Most women can’t but there are some things to consider such as color, amount, consistency, and length of time bleeding lasts. Most implantation bleeding is either pink or dark rust-colored, it is typically much lighter than a woman’s normal flow, does not contain clots, and can last a few hours or up to 3 days.
What causes implantation bleeding, I hear you ask? It typically occurs more in women who are pregnant for the first time. It is caused by the fertilized egg burrowing into the wall of the uterus; it can break some of the blood vessels – which causing bleeding. If you experience this type of bleeding, you don’t need to go to the emergency room! However, if you have heavy bleeding, clots, or significant abdominal pain these symptoms are not typical of implantation bleeding and may require medical attention.
