The Abortion Pill: Warning Part 1

Let’s talk about The Abortion Pill, known medically as RU486, Mifeprex, or Mifepristone.  This pill is not the quick and easy fix you may have been thinking of or told.

Well, Mifeprex is to be strictly regulated and can only be dispensed by certain health care professionals. The FDA approved its use in Sep 2000 for medical abortions less than 10 weeks gestation. It is the first of two medications given for a medical abortion, the second medication is Misoprostol. Here are just a few facts about Mifeprex that you need to know.

A woman should NOT take the Abortion Pill if:

  • it has been more than 70 days (10 weeks gestation) since the first day of her last menstrual period
  • has an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside of the uterus)
  • has bleeding problems or is taking anticoagulant (blood-thinning) drug products
