Considering Adoption?

Making a decision about an unplanned pregnancy can be very difficult. An unplanned pregnancy causes a lot of stress and getting accurate medical advice and support helps. Today we are going to consider adoption and hopefully dispel some myths for you. We want you to know that right now we hear you, we see you, and we want to help. We also want you to know ALL of your options.

You have three legal options: Parenting, Adoption, and Abortion. All of them can be life-changing. Regardless of whether you’re considering adoption, abortion, or parenting, a free ultrasound is a good first step – and we can help with that.

With an unplanned pregnancy, parenting often seems like a very distant option so we are briefly going to cover adoption today. We will continue this series with abortion next and then we will talk about parenting.

Unlike abortion, many women don’t take much time to consider adoption as a possibility. However, modern adoptions are very different from how they are portrayed in the media and how they were years ago. Today’s adoption process places the birth mother (and father) in control and makes it possible for them to plan the type of adoption they desire. Let’s discuss the myths:

Myth #1 – I will never know how my child is doing. With modern adoption there is a range of openness, not only do you get to pick the family, you also get to layout the type of relationship you want. Some parents make the decision to see their child on birthdays or to send cards and find out about how their school is going. There are many modern options when you are considering adoption.

Myth #2 – My child will think I am a horrible person – Actually, you get to set the narrative, you could be the one to tell your story to your child, one day. Considering adoption as one of your choices is courageous and selfless, you are putting the needs of others first.

Myth #3 – People will judge me and think I am being irresponsible. The opposite is actually true, exploring your options and considering an adoption plan is actually being a responsible parent. In the short term, you may feel judged but in the long term you may feel empowered knowing that your child is growing and thriving.

Thank you for reading today, we hope you learned more about adoption and the myths.  We will be writing in a few weeks on abortion and we hope you will join us.

Judgement-Free Pregnancy Center

Judgement-free? Safe? Are You Serious?

In today’s world, the idea of a judgement-free, safe place seems like a pipe dream.  Everybody has an opinion.  And most people are willing to risk everything in order to be heard.  In fact, failing to stress how serious you are and how right you are, can make others attack your very character. Silence is no longer golden.  Gentleness is no longer a virtue.

But most issues are not simple and many decisions in life are not easy.  Women have choices. What they don’t need is someone screaming at them, telling them how to think and how to behave so they can be on the “right” side of history, or on the “right” side of religion.

What women need, is a truly judgement-free, safe place where they can be themselves and speak honestly about their fears, their hopes, and their dreams.  What women need is a place where they don’t find themselves in the middle of a fierce political battle; where what they decide doesn’t make them a hero or a villain.  Instead, wrestling with a difficult decision simply means they are human.

If you find yourself facing an unplanned pregnancy and you want a truly judgement-free, safe place to process your options and receive medical services – like a free pregnancy test and a free ultrasound – give Alcove Health a call. You won’t find protestors in our parking lot.  No one inside will shout at you or demand your submission.  Instead, we will hear your story, help you think through your options, and give you the medically accurate information you need to make the best possible decision for you and your loved ones.  And we will do it all at no cost to you. Click HERE to make your free appointment or click to call 757-591-8141 today.

So come as you are.  We see you.  We hear you.  We want to help.

Adoption Myth #3

Once I say "yes" I can't change my mind

You are willing to consider adoption but scared you might change your mind.  What happens then? Do you still have to go through with it? So many decisions. So much paperwork. What happens if you just can’t do it?

That’s a fair question and one you absolutely need to consider.  Here’s what you need to know:  in most states, you have anywhere from 48 to 72 hours after the birth of your child to sign the TPR (termination of parental rights).  That means, in most states, you can still change your mind following the birth of your baby.  In some states, you may even have additional time.

So, if you are willing to consider adoption, be sure to research the laws for your specific state.  While you’re at it, be sure to check out our other adoption blog posts which you can find here and here.  Many women facing an unplanned pregnancy have refused to consider adoption because they simply don’t have all the facts.  Don’t leave any stones unturned as you think through all your options, including adoption.

Come talk to us today so we can give you the facts.  Click here to make your free appointment at Alcove Health.  We can provide a safe space for you to process all your options, get information about adoption, and receive important medical services such as a FREE pregnancy test and a FREE ultrasound.  The more accurate information you have, the more likely you are to make the decision best for you and your unique situation.

The ADoption Myth #2

My Child Will Hate Me

“I could never choose adoption!  My child would hate me!”  Is that what you’re thinking?  If so, let’s talk….

In a previous blog post, we addressed the myth that adoption is “giving” your baby away.  In this post, we will discuss the myth that adoption means you’ll child will feel unwanted, or even hate you for making this decision.

To understand where this myth comes from, we have to take a trip back in time.  Several decades ago most adoptions were closed, meaning there was little or no communication between the child and his or her birth parents.  In recent years research studies have radically changed our understanding of what adopted children need to thrive.  This research has demonstrated that it is actually in the best interest of the child to have an ongoing relationship with his or her birth parents!  How cool is that?

Adoption agencies today call this an “open” adoption.  Agencies work with both sets of parents to develop a long term plan that meets the needs of the child.  As the birth parent you can request visits to your child on special occasions or whatever timetable you and the adoptive parents agree upon.  Birth parents are also encouraged to take their time in choosing the right adoptive parents for their child.  Big sports fans?  No problem, this family practically lives on the ballfield!  Always wanted to visit Florida?  There are adoptive families there too!  Love the idea of lots of brothers and sisters?  Check out this family of ten!

Adoption today is not your grandmother’s adoption.  Before you rule out this important option, come talk to us today so we can give you a more accurate picture of what adoption looks like today.  For more information you can also check out Lifetime Adoptions.

Are you facing a pregnancy decision today?  If you’re unsure whether to choose abortion or adoption, our medical services and free abortion consultations are a good place to start.  Click HERE to make your FREE appointment at Alcove Health, so you can meet with your own Advocate and Registered Nurse and receive a FREE pregnancy test and FREE ultrasound.

The Adoption Myth #1

The ADoption Myth #1

I Could Never Give My Baby Away

And we don’t want you to! You will be ‘placing’ your baby in very loving arms, not ‘giving’ him/her away. Let’s talk more…

When facing an unplanned pregnancy it’s often only two options in her mind; abortion or parenting.  But there is a third option that is often overlooked – adoption.  Most women find the idea too difficult to seriously consider and that she’s a ‘bad person’ to even think about “giving my baby away”.  This is one of many myths associated with adoption.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Did you know that one report from Adoptive Families Magazine found that domestic infant adoption costs families an average of $43,000? Crazy expensive right! This cost is for attorneys, physicians, courts, social workers, administrators, and many more who are involved in the process. Families who make the decision to add to their homes through adoption are spending tremendous resources to bring this baby home.  So your baby is very wanted!

So if adoption is not a free gift, what is it?  In reality, adoption is a parenting decision, and not an easy one.  You and the father-of-the-baby literally get to CHOOSE WHO the adoptive parents for your child will be.  Perhaps it feels like a free gift because it is so incredibly selfless.  Is that you?

So if you find yourself facing an unplanned pregnancy and think you only have two viable options, think again.  Adoption is a third option you may have overlooked and it may very well be the best option for your situation. If you’re considering adoption, we want to be your first call so you can receive your free ultrasound and options consultation.

Here at Alcove Health Women’s Clinic, we are a safe place to process your unplanned pregnancy.  You deserve medically-evidenced information to make your best pregnancy decision. We will provide options consultation, pregnancy testing, an ultrasound, parenting support, and more. All for free and with total confidentiality.
